  •           Rosemary has one of the longest histories in traditional medicine. Traces of Rosemary can be found as far back as the tombs of the first dynasty Egyptians.
It blends well with many other essential oils and this essential oil has a pleasantly sharp fresh cineole aroma somewhat similar to Eucalyptus. It is what most people expect a good Rosemary essential oil to smell like.

Rosemary is grown all over the world but is native to the Mediterranean region. Most of the commercial production today comes from 3 main sources France, Spain and Tunisia. The same species of plant will produce very different qualities of oil when grown in different environments normally separated to 3 categories but there can be more. Typically, France produces verbenone type, Spain produces camphor (or alpha pinene) type and Tunisia produces Cineole type.
The different chemo types can be used to better target uses. The camphor type is best suited for muscle aches and is the most stimulating. It is a good analgesic (pain reliever) for arthritis, aching joints and overworked muscles. It is used in heart tonics in cases where high blood pressure is not a risk. It is reputed to improve circulation, reduce palpitations and cardiac fatigue. In small amount its stimulating effect may also aid memory and concentration.
The cineole type is preferred for respiratory and sinus conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis etc… It may also speed the elimination of waste from the kidneys and liver. Many people prefer the fresh scent of cineole type.
The verbenone type is the mildest form on the skin. It is used in high quality skin care products. It is commonly used in hair care formulas to stimulate hair growth and slow premature baldness. This milder verbenone type is used in treatments for dandruff and as a lice repellent. It is diffused or used in liniments to strengthen the liver and gall bladder. Verbenone type is good for sinus congestion.
Rosemary has good antimicrobial properties for cleansing and disinfecting.
As a pest repellent, Rosemary can repel lice, slugs, snails and other insects especially plant eating insects.
Typically, Rosemary Tunisia has Low Verbenone, Medium Camphor, High 1,8 Cineole.
Rosemary has a very good shelf life when stored properly and can last 3 to 5 years.
