          The essential oil is obtained from aged roots which are dried and then steam distilled by hydrodiffusion to collect this quality of oil. The color of the oil is amber to deep brown.
          Vetiver is used extensively in Oriental perfumes and other perfumes as an excellent fixative and base note. It has a strong odor intensity so very little is needed in the formulation of a perfume.
          Vetiver essential oil is commonly used in Holistic Aromatherapy. In aromatherapy it is used for a wide range of benefits. It is a deeply relaxing oil which helps the body and mind to release tension.
          The reputed traits of vetiver are it is nourishing, uplifting, comforting, refreshing, restoring and grounding.
          Some of the reputed benefits & uses are for headaches, heatstroke, fever, premenstrual tension, muscle aches, sprains, stiffness, rheumatism, insomnia, depression, stress, mental and physical exhaustion, muscle pain, anxiety and hysteria. Vetiver is also used in skin care, cosmetics, massage and baths. It is used for acne, cuts, eczema, dry skin, wounds, aging skin and irritated skin.

          In Sri Lanka the grassy herb is woven into fans, window screens and sleep mats to repel insects and add tranquility to the home. Vetiver roots are used to repel insects and are layered among clothing.
