Its scent might remind you of rubs for muscle aches. Wintergreen (or synthetic methyl salicylate) is commonly used in name brand sports rubs for overworked muscles to relieve pain and release tight muscles. Its main component methyl salicylate which is a precursor to aspirin and should be avoided by people with allergies to aspirin.
Wintergreen is a good oil for vaporizers, scenting potpourri, candles, sprays & other natural fragrancing. It blends well in small amounts with other essential oils such as citrus and floral essential oils.
Wintergreen is too strong to use on the face but may be useful against acne on the other parts of the body. Its antifungal properties may help against dandruff in shampoos and athletes foot fungus. In very light amounts it is thought to condition and speed healing of the skin.

Note: Not for internal use. Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
Caution: Methyl salicylate is toxic in large amounts and can build up in the body so should only be applied to the skin occasionally. Do not use while pregnant or breast feeding. Do not use on children under 12. Children may confuse the aroma with candy so keep well out of reach of children. May prevent blood clotting. Should be avoided by people with allergies to aspirin.
