In order to be classified as a “Select” essential oil an oil must be all natural and a truly exceptional quality that is difficult to duplicate. The CO2 extraction method makes this oil special. Ginger root is reputed to ease nausea but the main component credited with this benefit is gingerol and does not transfer to steam distilled ginger oil. For 1) the molecule is heavy, near the limit of what steam distillation can collect. 2) the molecule is heat sensitive and converts to other constituents when heated. The cold extraction process preserves the gingerol in the finished product. Some prefer this oil for nausea associated with things like sea sickness because it is mildly effective against the nausea without the sleepy side effects of Dramamine.

Ginger CO2 has a pleasant, warm, subtle, caramel sweet and slightly peppery aroma. It is easy to work with and blend without solidifying or crystalizing.

          Reputed Benefits:

Ginger has several qualities that are good for the fitness fanatic. It is awakening, provides energy, stamina and improved circulation. It can be diluted and rubbed on the target muscles before exercise. The improved circulation may help oxygen reach the target area to reduce lactic acid build up. These qualities are also why it is included in aphrodisiac blends.

It's important to understand the difference between an injured muscle and an overworked muscle. Generally, an injured muscle typically swells up very quickly, usually within a few to several minutes after injury. A tired or overworked muscle can begin aching over hours or even a day or more after exercise. An injured muscle should receive ice and cooling oils to reduce swelling before it chokes the area. A tired, overworked muscle should receive warming treatment and warming oils to draw more blood flow to the area. This is where Plai and Ginger are opposites. Ginger is a warming oil and Plai is cooling. Ginger would be the choice for overworked muscles after exercise.

The benefits of ginger for your skin: gingerol is also an antioxidant which fights skin-damaging free radicals and can help promote a brighter, firmer, more youthful appearance. It also helps reduce skin inflammation, making it a great ingredient for acne-prone skin.

The benefits of ginger for your hair: Ginger has helps protect and condition hair especially dry and damaged hair and leaving it soft and shiny. You’ll also find it beneficial if you suffer from dandruff as ginger oil mixed with olive oil before bed will help fight dandruff while nourishing your scalp. Ginger has positive effects on the respiratory system as well. Inhaling the aroma may help as an expectorant to eases coughs and congestion and may soothe a sore throat.

Ginger root is commonly used in cooking or teas for the benefits above as well as to improved digestion and to soothe symptoms of the common cold (Aroma & More does not yet represent any oil as safe for human consumption). It can aid in perspiring during times of high fever, soothe sore throats, reduce congestion and restore energy. Some of these benefits are still available by diffusing the essential oil or CO2 extract into the air or diluting and adding to a chest, neck or temple rub. For motion sickness or morning sickness try blending with chamomile and fresh sweet orange in a small bottle and inhaling before the first sign of nausea. It may also be added to a fast absorbing carrier oil like fractionated coconut, baobab, hazelnut, rosehip or others at 2% to 10% strength depending on your sensitivity and applied to pulse points. Behind the knee is perhaps the best place to reduce exposure to sunlight and it should be applied at least 45 minutes before traveling.

Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water based liquids.
