Cassia is a powerful essential oil with a very sweet cinnamon like aroma. It is often used as a cinnamon substitute and today and most cinnamon flavored candies are flavored with cassia instead.

It is considered by some to be the “Poor Mans Cinnamon”. The oil is produced from leaves which are more easily renewable than removing bark from Cinnamon trees. It is much more abundant and cheaper than true Cinnamon Bark.

Cassia increases circulation which may be beneficial for exercise and cellulite however, many aromatherapists consider cassia to be too powerful to be used on the skin even when diluted (0.05% max). It may be better diffused into the air.
Cassia is soothing to the stomach when diffused, sprayed in the air or in burner blends.
Cassia dried herb has been used in China for centuries as an aid for stomach problems such as nausea and indigestion. It has qualities as a disinfectant, insect repellent, and added to balms for sore joints to reduce pain and increase mobility. Today Cassia is being studied for its blood pressure lowering and sedative qualities.
