The names “Everlasting” and “Immortelle” come from the reputation of the flowers for retaining their brilliant color even when dried. Immortelle Or Helichrysum absolute has a unique aroma that is sweeter than sweet and herbaceous. It is not similar to Immortelle essential oil and can’t be fully appreciated until it has been diluted or blended with another oil.
Diluted well, Immortelle is touted as the perfect addition to skin care formulations. It’s moisturizing, and will help prevent dryness and cracking of the skin also has an anti-aging property.
It helps to regenerate skin tissue and relieve inflammation. It helps to tighten and tone skin, fade scars, shrink stretch marks, and reduce the appearance of surgical scars and skin blemishes. It’s one of the few extracts that contain “diketones,” which help reduce scar tissue and stimulate the growth of new skin tissue.

The names “Everlasting” and “Immortelle” come from the reputation of the flowers for retaining their brilliant color even when dried. Immortelle or Helichrysum is steam distilled and maintains a natural light floral aroma that is sweet and herbaceous. It is a wonderful addition to any therapeutic collection. Immortelle essential oil has many benefits, is easy to work with and blends well with many other oils. The aroma is very different than Immortelle absolute.
The big difference between a steam distilled essential oil and a solvent extracted absolute is that steam distillation is a natural process and absolutes require the use of solvents. The benefits of essential oils is that they are natural but the steam distillation process can damage some components of the oil. The benefit of absolutes is that they collect more undamaged volatile oils plus some non-volatile oils and waxes to be more similar to the plants composition. The downside is that they do use solvents and there is a risk that trace amounts reach the finished product. Once blended however, trace amounts of parts per million turn into parts per billion. It’s up to the individual how much they will tolerate but the risk is seen by some people as very small.
Immortelle absolute is quite viscous, dark in color and is good for fixative, while Immortelle distilled oils are light, very thin and almost clear in color.
Immortelle is touted as the perfect addition to skin care formulations for those with sensitive skin. It’s moisturizing, and will help prevent dryness and cracking of the skin also has an anti-aging property. It helps to regenerate skin tissue and relieve inflammation. It is one of the few essential oils that can be applied “neat” to the skin on small areas. Immortelle is especially good for the thin, fragile skin of the elderly. It helps to tighten and tone skin, fade scars, shrink stretch marks, and reduce the appearance of surgical scars and skin blemishes. It’s one of the few essential oils that contain “diketones,” which help reduce scar tissue and stimulate the growth of new skin tissue.
Emotionally, Immortelle is soothing and calming. It is thought to open the heart and help soothe old emotional wounds, as well as to help deal with depression, stress, and mental exhaustion. The aroma is said to help one feel secure and safe and stimulates positive thoughts and actions.
Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
