          Rosa centifolia absolute is highly prized in perfumery and especially natural perfumery. This absolute requires 3000 to 4000 kgs of Rose peddles to produce only 1 kg of Rose Absolute. The extraction method ensures minimal damage to this fantastic aroma compared to steam distillation methods.

          Rose is considered one of the top aphrodisiac oils so much so that Roses have become a symbol of Love. The flowers have long been used in wedding ceremonies and as gifts on romantic holidays. Its purpose at funerals is to show love for the lost. Rose Absolute is an amazingly complex oil. It is probably top 5 of the most complex. Rose absolute normally has approximately 420 natural constituents while the average essential oil may have 60 to 150 natural constituents.

          The difference between Rose Essential oil (Sometimes called Rose Otto) and Rose Absolute is that Rose Otto Essential oil is steam distilled and Rose Absolute is solvent extracted. The advantage of steam distillation is that it is a natural process however, the heat in the process damages and/or changes some of the delicate natural constituents of the oil. The advantage of solvent extraction is that it doesn’t significantly damage the oil and produces a more complex oil which is more similar to the natural Rose. The downside to solvent extraction is it collects some small amount of non-volatile oils like carrier oils and waxes. There is also concern about the possibility of solvent left in the final product. However, techniques have improved over the years to ensure the maximum possible residues are very very low and some producers claim they are now able to remove 100% of solvents in absolutes.

Tip: Rose absolute is usually pretty easy for the customer to test. For a quick quality check, you can place Rose Absolute in the refrigerator. The low temperatures will solidify some non-volatile parts to look mostly like wax in oil. This is a little bit difficult to get the correct aroma combined with the correct appearance if synthetic chemicals or other essential oils are added in large amounts.

Note: Not for internal use. Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, Essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, additional ingredients or special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. Essential oils used as flavorings are diluted to a very small percent.

Caution: IFRA recommends usage on the skin of less than 0.05% due to the presence of carcinogens like methyl eugenol in the oil. However, IFRA rarely considers the anti-carcinogen quality of an oil. We will leave this to the users judgement but some of our staff is not worried about concentrations up to 2.5% in our personal formulations. Essential oils can be harmful if used improperly.
