Lavender essential oils are perhaps the most popular oil used in aromatherapy. It has a mild nature that makes it one of the few essential oils that can be applied to small areas of the skin "neat" (at 100% strength). The name Lavender 40/42 refers to a set standard of linalool and linalyl acetate in its composure, not the percent of lavender in the oil.
In the past there was an attempt by the fragrance industry to standardize Lavender @ minimum 40% linalool and 42% Linalyl acetate. That is where the name 40/42 comes from, but it proved difficult to achieve and only the best farms in the best seasons could produce it. The result was many lavender 40/42 oils were altered with other species or synthetic chemicals. Today, the Lavender 40/42 used in aromatherapy does not quite meet the 40/42 standard to avoid addition of synthetic materials and has come to mean it is a standard grade Lavender. We know another species of Lavender or Lavandin has been added to raise the linalyl/linalool content. This is done at the production level and is industry wide. However, no synthetic chemicals have been added or detected through testing of our Lavender 40/42. We also add a premium quality high altitude Lavender to our Lavender 40/42 and by the quality standard we have set, we don’t believe there is any better Lavender 40/42 on the market.
Lavender is also beneficial for treating minor injuries. It can be placed directly on a minor cut or burn at 100% strength. It is an antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal anti-inflammatory oil and an aid to fast healing with mild pain relieving ability. It is thought to stimulate production of white blood cells that fight infection. Lavender can be mixed with jojoba to make a wonderful acne treatment. It is one of the best to keep in the medicine cabinet.
As well as healing, the highest quality Lavenders also have a rejuvenating effect on mature skin for a more youthful appearance. It is used to treat scars and stretch marks and some people claim regular use of Lavender slows the aging process.
As an insect repellent, Lavender can be vaporized into the air or used in an aroma warmer to repel moths, lice and fleas from the home.
Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
Caution: Lavender is one of the mildest essential oils. However, Essential oils can be harmful if used improperly. Information is provided for educational purposes only. It is up to the customer to determine if the product is right for their intended purpose. Special consideration should be made before applying essential oils to pregnant women, children or the elderly. If under a doctor's care, please consult the physician before using essential oils. If applying to skin essential oils must be diluted correctly and we recommend testing on a small area of skin to check for reaction before attempting a full body massage.
