Plai is newer to many aromatherapists and hard to find in many books but is a truly interesting essential oil. It is in the same family as ginger and galangal and has some similarity in use and some differences. Plai is a cooling oil, shrinking swelling, while ginger and galangal are warming oils, drawing circulation into an area.
It has the disinfectant capabilities of a good quality Tea Tree and amazing potential for joint pain.
The central region of Thailand is known for producing quality root oils from the Ginger family. Here, Plai grows in the wild where the roots are collected and steam distilled to produce the essential oil.
