Sun Sensitivity (Phototoxicity) in Essential Oil

Phototoxicity หรือเรียกอีกอย่างว่า Photosensitization หรือ Sun sensitively เกิดจากน้ำมันหอมระเหยที่มีสารไวต่อแสงแดด หรือ แสงอัลตราไวโอเลต (UV) หลอดไฟอัลตราไวโอเลต และเตียงอบผิว จึงไม่ควรใช้หากต้องออกไปเจอแสงแดด ซึ่งจะส่งผลให้เกิดอาการระคายเคืองผิวหนัง เป็นผื่นแดงบวมหรือรอยไหม้จนถึงอาการที่รุนแรงได้ ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในกลุ่มน้ำมันหอมระเหยกลุ่มส้ม เช่น Lemon, Lime, Bergamot, Bitter orange กรณีที่ใช้ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่มีส่วนผสมเหล่านี้ จึงควรละเว้นการออกแดดอย่างน้อย 12 ชม. (บางตำราระบุ 24 ชม.)

การเลือกน้ำมันหอมระเหยที่ปลอดภัยและปริมาณผสมที่เหมาะสมจึงจำเป็นสำหรับผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ใช้ทาผิว อาทิ Lotion, Spray mist, Serum oil, Lip Balm, Sun Tan lotion หรือน้ำมันนวดตัวที่ใช้นวด Outdoor หรือชนิดที่ไม่ต้องล้างออกหลังนวด

อย่างไรก็ตามกลุ่ม Citrus ก็ไม่จัดอยู่ในกลุ่ม Phototoxicity ทั้งหมด ซึ่งยังมีตัวเลือกอื่น ๆ ให้เลือกใช้อีกหลายตัวทีเดียว

·         Bergamot peel oil - cold pressed

·         Clementine oil

·         Grapefruit oil - cold pressed

·         Kaffir lime peel oil cold pressed

·         Kaffir lime leaf oil

·         Lemon oil - cold pressed

·         Lime oil - cold pressed

·         Mandarin Leaf oil

·         Orange Peel Bitter oil - cold pressed

ความแตกต่างระหว่าง Bergamot ธรรมดา และ Bergamot FCF

"Furocoumarins Free" (FCF) คือ ไม่มีสาร Furocoumarins อยู่ในตัวน้ำมันหอมระเหย สีน้ำมันใส จึงสามารถใช้เป็นส่วนผสมของผลิตภัณฑ์สูตรที่ใช้ระหว่างวันได้ ทั้งนี้การเลือกใช้จึงขึ้นอยู่กับวัตถุประสงค์ในการใช้งาน
