Argan Oil is collected from the fruits of the Argan Tree (Argania spinosa), a tree that is native to Morocco and known to live up to 200 years. Most Argan trees grow in the semi-desert area of south western Morocco. This tree is endemic to Morocco, but some cultivation is beginning in other parts of the world although Argan oil is produced almost exclusively in Morocco.
For centuries, Moroccans have used Argan Oil in skin care in the harsh desert environment. Argan Oil is a rare and precious commodity sometimes referred to as Liquid Gold by the local people. Argan oil is obtained from the kernel of the Argan tree. Argan Fruit is covered by a thick skin. Inside the skin there is a nut like fruit which contains 3 kernels. The oil is collected from the kernels and may be collected from raw kernels or they may be roasted. The oil from roasted Argan kernels is less desirable for cosmetic purposes because of the roasted nutty aroma. It is one of the most difficult and costly oils to procure because it requires a very labor intensive process, normally performed by Moroccan women to remove the outer layers, grind the kernels and press the paste to collect the oil.
Argan Oil - Virgin Organic is not produced from roasted argan kernels. It is cold pressed and deodorized by steam process to produce a very low aroma just a hint of a pleasant nutty scent.
