It is called coffin wood because the wood is used in coffin building due to its resistance to mold and water damage. The essential oil is extracted from the sawdust by-product from wood cutting. Siam wood is a member of the Cupressaceae or Cypress family but the oil has the beautiful aroma of a quality Cedar wood.
