It is in the same family as calendula but the oil is not similar in appearance or scent. The smell is wind, sweet and some fresh fruity.(some said like green apple).           French Lavender H.A. (High Altitude) is one of the most popular and therapeutic forms of Lavender. Distilling at high altitude allows the producer to reduce temperature which increases the ester content and improves the quality of oil. Some batches from this source have an amazing linalyl acetate content above 50%. It also has a low content of camphor, camphene and 1,8 cineole which are less desirable for skin conditioning and relaxation.
         A good quality lavender has less than 2% of these constituents and this one normally has around 1.4%. It has a mild nature that makes it one of the few essential oils that can be applied to small areas of the skin "neat" (at 100% strength).

     In order to be classified as a “Select” essential oil an oil must be all natural and a truly exceptional quality that is difficult to duplicate. Due to the producer’s proprietary technique, materials and knowledge this oil is powerful yet missing some of the pungent notes of resins and piperine normally found in Black Pepper essential oil.

     This has a lower dry aroma with almost a hint of frankincense scent but a Black Pepper aroma which more closely resembles the peppercorns used in cooking. These qualities can be helpful for registered formulas because the ingredients can be revealed on a label yet still make a formula difficult to copy.

          Bergamot "FCF" grade is a cold pressed then distilled bergamot peel oil. By steam distilling the oil, some of the benefits are reduced but it has virtually all bergaptene removed. Furocoumarins are not 100% removed but the content is so low it can be classified as Furocoumarin Free (FCF) and safe for use on the skin outdoors.

          Cold pressed bergamot contains the furocoumarin Bergaptene which can be photosensitizing and cause a reaction on the skin when exposed to sunlight. A typical reaction would be increased risk of sunburn. Normal cold pressed Bergamot is not ideal for blends that are intended to be worn outside in the daytime such as facial/cosmetic blends.

          Bergamot is energizing yet relaxing. It is a popular addition in formulas to treat stress, anxiety, nervousness and depression.
