Galangal root is widely used in SE Asian cooking as a spice, flavor and as a digestive aid. However, Galangal root essential oil is much too highly concentrated to ingest without dilution, special training and caution.
In Aromatherapy, Galangal is similar in use as Ginger although the aroma is more similar to a dry ginger. It is more spicy/woody than sweet. It is often added to natural perfumes, skin and hair products. It has a reputation as warming, energizing, stimulating, antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial.

Diffused into the air its fresh scent is thought to be beneficial for cough and upper respiratory infections while awakening for times when you cannot stay in bed.
Galangal has anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties for treatment of sore joints.
Galangal may be able to reduce odor by fighting the bacteria and perspiration that support them. It can be added to a mouthwash to reduce bad breath and help disinfect minor sores.
Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
Caution: Essential oils can be harmful if used improperly. Information is provided for educational purposes only. It is up to the customer to determine if the product is right for their intended purpose. Special consideration should be made before applying essential oils to pregnant women, children or the elderly. If under a doctor's care, please consult the physician before using essential oils. If applying to skin essential oils must be diluted correctly and Aroma & More recommends testing on a small area of skin to check for reaction before attempting a full body massage. Claims have not been evaluated by the FDA.
