- Patchouli Indonesia is our base quality but it still is nicer than many others. It is not as harsh as some others, has a smooth aroma and a very good patchouli alcohol content typically above 31% with a medium dark to dark, rich appearance. Average quality Patchouli can have between 22% - 28% Patchouli alcohol content and a somewhat sharp or bitter aroma.
Patchouli is probably best known for its antidepressant and aphrodisiac properties. It is said to energize the mind, remove stress and improve creativity. It is relaxing and a popular ingredient in many sensual formulas.

In Perfumery patchouli is one of the most commonly used fixative essential oils. It mingles with the other oils in a blend and holds the scent for a much more lasting effect. Even though the aroma is not beautiful, more like a smoky/earthy scent, a premium quality patchouli is a common ingredient in popular perfumes and colognes by well known manufacturers. As an addition to insect repellents, the fixative effect combined with its insect repelling ability will assist your blends to last longer.
Traditionally In aroma therapy, patchouli is probably best known for its relaxation, anxiety, antidepressant & aphrodisiac qualities. But there are many more therapeutic uses including:

There are many essential oils useful for fighting viral infections such as cold and flu during the daytime but most will keep will keep you awake at night. Patchouli is one of the useful essential oils for night time therapy and the aroma may even remind you of sleeping next to a campfire, or blend a small amount with a premium high altitude Lavender for a softer scent and a good night’s sleep.
