  •           Galangal root is widely used in SE Asian cooking as a spice, flavor and as a digestive aid. However, Galangal root essential oil is much too highly concentrated to ingest without dilution, special training and caution.

  •           In Aromatherapy, Galangal is similar in use as Ginger although the aroma is more similar to a dry ginger. It is more spicy/woody than sweet. It is often added to natural perfumes, skin and hair products. It has a reputation as warming, energizing, stimulating, antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial. Diffused into the air its fresh scent is thought to be beneficial for cough and upper respiratory infections while awakening for times when you cannot stay in bed.

  •           Galangal has anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties for treatment of sore joints.

  •           Galangal may be able to reduce odor by fighting the bacteria and perspiration that support them. It can be added to a mouthwash to reduce bad breath and help disinfect minor sores.
