It has been produced for over 2000 years and used for a variety of reasons including skin conditioning, hair conditioning, easing breathing difficulties and weight loss.
Black cumin is absorbent at a moderate speed and has a warm peppery aroma. Its active compounds, crystalline nigellone and thymoquinone, are the most studied, but it also contains small amounts of uncommon fatty acids such as myristic acid, eicosenoic acid, arachidonic acid, proteins and vitamins B1, B2, B6, calcium, folate, iron, copper, zinc and phosphorous. It is anti-inflammatory and an exceptional anti-oxidant that soothes dry, irritated skin, soothing and softening as it moisturizes. It can be used in cosmetic formulations like face creams, body lotions, massage oils, hair serums & conditioners.
Caution: Due to small amounts of thymoquinone, it is not recommended during pregnancy or while breast feeding. May lower blood pressure or blood sugar. Contains no common allergens however, allergic reactions or skin sensitivities are possible. Aroma & More recommends using in small amounts and testing on a small area of skin to check for reaction before using on larger areas.
