          Vitex Is also known as “Chaste Tree” or “Monk’s Pepper”. The Leaves and Berries have a long history in traditional medicine around the Mediterranean region but the essential oil only recently becoming popular in aroma therapy. Vitex is an emotionally balancing herb particularly for women. It is used by women suffering from PMS and is being researched as a treatment for Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders.

•  Vitex can be diffused into the air or applied to the skin. It is a strong oil so it should be diluted in a carrier oil to less than 1% if applying to small areas of the skin.
•  Vitex has not been used much in perfumery but it has a fresh herbal grassy aroma that might work well in some therapeutic blends.

Note: Not for internal use. Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.

          Methyl eugenol has not been found in Croatian Vitex essential oil so it does not need special caution based on this component, however it is still a powerful oil that requires care.

Caution: Not recommended during pregnancy, breast feeding or on children under 12. Possible drug interaction with hormone therapy or contraceptives. Vitex is powerful and not recommended to use more than 0.1% in massage formulas. Essential oils can be harmful if used improperly. Information is provided for educational purposes only.
