Fresh Geranium essential oil can have an unattractive top note. Thankfully, this is the first wear off so the aroma may improve as its used or ages exposing the more floral beauty underneath. Keep in mind when formulating aromas that they do change over time so even if a blend is not perfect the first day it might be worth storing and checking again.
Understanding Geraniums:
There is a lot of confusion about Geranium Bourbon, Geranium Rose and Rose Geranium etc… In the Past the term Rose Geranium was first used for Geranium Bourbon grown in the Reunion islands and cultivated to produce a more rose like scent. (For example: A producer might control the lighting to alter when a plant blossoms). This is no longer done on any large scale in the Reunion islands anymore but the practices have spread elsewhere like France.
Today there are over 250 species of pelargoniums plus hundreds of hybrids and thousands of cultivars.
