          Citronella essential oil is extracted from a type of grass that grows in South Asia and Indonesia. It is one of the most common oils used in natural flea and mosquito repellents because of its low cost. Citronella Java is suspected to be a more effective repellent against Dengue carrying mosquitos such as Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus than Citronella Ceylon due to its higher citronellal content.
       Citronellal is a leading insect repellent against dengue carrying mosquitos. It is sometimes artificially produced by the name PMD but it is commonly extracted naturally from Citronella Java. Citronella Ceylon does not produce high enough quantities. Both types are still very popular in insect repellents, soaps, cleaners and candle making.
          Citronella oil has excellent antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial activity. It is widely used to treat minor cuts and injuries. It can be diffused or vaporized into the air and inhaled to help fight colds and flu.
          One of the qualities of Citronella that most people don’t know is that it is helpful for sleep. It does not make you sleep longer like a sleeping pill might, but it makes a person sleep better. There are many testimonials of citronella assisting sleeplessness from mild nervous exhaustion and tension.
          As a local rub, Citronella may be useful to treat joint, muscle or nerve pain.
          Citronella is good for oily skin, acne or excessive perspiration.      
Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally, but even when they can, essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water-based liquids.
