          This Cornmint oil is from an unrefined single distillation and has a strong, fresh, and bittersweet aroma. The total menthol content when first distilled is over 70%, but this is too high for the oil to carry and some of this crystalizes as it cools and is separated out. The remaining product has about 55% menthol and is still sharp, minty and slightly sweet.

           Cornmint oil has a cooling feel that is a great pain reliever for minor burns such as sunburn as well as for sore muscles and aching joints. It is however, a warming oil in that helps draw blood flow to the area where applied.           French Lavender H.A. (High Altitude) is one of the most popular and therapeutic forms of Lavender. Distilling at high altitude allows the producer to reduce temperature which increases the ester content and improves the quality of oil. Some batches from this source have an amazing linalyl acetate content above 50%. It also has a low content of camphor, camphene and 1,8 cineole which are less desirable for skin conditioning and relaxation.
         A good quality lavender has less than 2% of these constituents and this one normally has around 1.4%. It has a mild nature that makes it one of the few essential oils that can be applied to small areas of the skin "neat" (at 100% strength).

           Lavandin Grosso is a hybrid of True Lavender and Lavender Spike. It is a very hearty species which produces double the amount of oil of True Lavender and is well suited for large scale production at lower cost.
           Lavandin does not have as nice of relaxation qualities of Lavender but its clean floral scent and low cost make it a popular essential oil especially among soap makers. It is more similar to Lavender Spike in use. It’s useful in respiratory burner and vapor blends, disinfecting and deodorizing, acne, hair tonics and is an even more effective insect repellent.             Kaffir Lime Peel essential oil has a low limonene content compared to other citrus oils but maintains its citrus scent with hints of other scents such as pine, wood, spice and citronella. Kaffir Peel has one of the most complex scents of all the citrus oils.

          In order to be classified as a “Select” essential oil an oil must be all natural and a truly exceptional quality that is difficult to duplicate. The CO2 extraction method makes this oil special. Ginger root is reputed to ease nausea but the main component credited with this benefit is gingerol and does not transfer to steam distilled ginger oil. For 1) the molecule is heavy, near the limit of what steam distillation can collect. 2) the molecule is heat sensitive and converts to other constituents when heated. The cold extraction process preserves the gingerol in the finished product.           Bergamot "FCF" grade is a cold pressed then distilled bergamot peel oil. By steam distilling the oil, some of the benefits are reduced but it has virtually all bergaptene removed. Furocoumarins are not 100% removed but the content is so low it can be classified as Furocoumarin Free (FCF) and safe for use on the skin outdoors.

          Cold pressed bergamot contains the furocoumarin Bergaptene which can be photosensitizing and cause a reaction on the skin when exposed to sunlight. A typical reaction would be increased risk of sunburn. Normal cold pressed Bergamot is not ideal for blends that are intended to be worn outside in the daytime such as facial/cosmetic blends.

          Bergamot is energizing yet relaxing. It is a popular addition in formulas to treat stress, anxiety, nervousness and depression.

           This is a rare quality of bergamot we have classified as a special selection or “Select”. It is difficult to find and expensive but this quality is absolutely necessary to produce some of our blends. It has a very rich scent and we are proud to be able to share this with our friends.

          A good quality bergamot really stands alone among other citrus oils. Bergamot has lower terpenes such as d-limonene which allows for a much more flavorful oil. Limonene is not the most desired part of citrus oils in most cases. In citrus oils such as orange, limonene content might be as high as 92% - 96% and the different benefits or aromas come from the small amount of other components in the oil.
