The first thing that makes this cinnamon extract special is the selection of materials. The producer collects only the inner bark from the older Indian trees instead of the younger farm variety. Cinnamon produces the highest quality bark from long exposure to sunlight in temperatures between 27 to 30 degrees C. It is collected from the “True Species” Cinnamomum zeylanicum that is referred to in most Aromatherapy writing.
The oil is then extracted by CO2 extraction methods. CO2 extraction collects the oil and some of the heavier components from the plant material that cannot be collected by steam distillation methods. It produces a much more complex oil without the use of solvents.
Cinnamon Bark is a powerful anti-infective oil which fights viral, fungal and bacterial infections while boosting the body’s immune system. It is so effective it was one of the herbs used in ancient times for embalming as a preservative to prevent a body from decaying after death.

Cinnamon is a “Hot” oil so it’s important to use very little and dilute it well in a carrier oil before applying to the skin. Suggested use on the skin is less than 0.1% diluted in a vegetable/carrier oil.
Historically, Cinnamon bark was considered a warming, aphrodisiac and sensual essential oil. It is energizing and thought to awaken the libido.
In order to be classified as a “Select” essential oil an oil must be all natural and a truly exceptional quality that is difficult to duplicate.

Aroma & More loves these specialized oils that have a deep richness that makes it impossible to perfectly copy blends with a steam distilled cinnamon. Even at this price, it is possible to save expense because it is not necessary to use as much oil.
Cinnamon Bark is a great oil for exercise and recovery. Used Before exercise, it is energizing and improves circulation. After exercise it is useful to treat sore or overworked muscles. It relaxes the muscles and improves circulation to the area to speed recovery.
It is important to understand the difference between a sore muscle and an injured muscle. Typically, a sore muscle aches increasingly over hours or days after exercise. An injured muscle is painful and happens more suddenly and swells quickly. Cinnamon Bark would be recommended to treat sore muscles.

In the past Cinnamon Bark was used in flavoring foods and candies although today Cassia oil Cinnamomum cassia has replaced most of it due to its lower cost.
Cinnamomum burmani bark is also commonly sold as cinnamon bark essential oil due to its lower cost. It has a somewhat similar aroma but very little aromatherapy research or writing has been done on this species. An experienced Aroma therapist will quickly notice the difference by smell alone.
Either Cassia or Cinnamomum burmani may be useful for soaps, candles, pot pourri etc… but they have been researched less for skin applications and caution should be used before applying to the skin.
Note: Most essential oils cannot be taken internally. But even when they can, Essential oils are highly concentrated and require dilution, special training and caution that Aroma & More does not yet provide. You can never drink any essential oils at 100% strength or diluted in water based liquids. Cinnamon bark essential oil is sometimes used to flavor foods and candies but only if you have the proper knowledge and training. Some aroma therapists do not recommend Cinnamon essential oil for internal use at all.
